We have divided our database of information into four unique sections based on the four ancient provinces of Ireland, known as Ulster, Leinster, Connacht, and Munster. Each province has a rich and vibrant history relating to the Famine and a different story to tell us. Although there is no legal status today in the grouping of the counties known as provinces, they are seen mostly by the Irish in a geographic and sporting context.


The Irish word for this territorial division, cúige, meaning "fifth part", indicates that there were once five; however, in the medieval period there were more.


The number of provinces and their delimitation fluctuated until 1610 when they were permanently set by the English administration of James I
