Leinster

Leinster Information

Leinster is the eastern province of Ireland. County Dublin, which is home to Dublin or Dubh Linn (Black Pool), the capital city of the Republic of Ireland is located here. In terms of the Famine, Dublin is an interesting anomaly on the island, as it was the only county which grew in population throughout the Famine. This is not to say the average people of Dublin did not suffer or migrate; rather the affluent ruling landlord class simply left their solemn and starving countryside estates and lived in homes like those in Mountjoy Square, Dublin. There was almost a renaissance of high society in Dublin nightlife as the average Irishman starved around them. The rest of Leinster suffered badly however, many moving to the city in hopes of boarding a ship to emigrate to a new land.  Massive population loss statistics are lessened here due to the more affluent classes moving to the area.
